While it may have been wonderful to perform at a seaside theater over the course of the summer, I was fortunate enough to spend my summer in NYC for the first time. It included my having prominent roles in two brand new musicals. The first was God of Love – A New Ten Minute Musical, written by Ben Boecker and Jessica Fleitman. I was cast as the leading man, Raymond Goodfellow – a hopelessly in love Brooklyn-based lounge singer who learns about true love in a humorous and unexpected fashion.
The second summer adventure was Pirates of Finance, a contemporary operetta incorporating the music of Arthur Sullivan, of “Gilbert &” fame, with book and lyrics by Charles Veley. This show was part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), which I came to find out is a prestigious annual event here in the city. While my role, Huey, was featured ensemble in the production, I managed to get singled out in a review written by Matthew Murray from Talkin’ Broadway. If you get the chance to read the review please do so!
Talkin’ Broadway Review:
Perhaps the most exciting news is that Michael Rodriguez of The Roster Agency has signed me as his client! Michael has been representing people performing on Broadway, in the movies and on television for over 17 years. This relationship came about during July when I auditioned before several agents. Michael emailed me the next day and it was not long after that we began working together. This is a very big step in my chosen career and I couldn’t be happier.
Right after Pirates closed in late July, I went up to perform with Interlakes Theatre in Meredith, NH. We put on an Andrew Lloyd Webber review entitled All I Ask of You, in which I sang all of the Phantom’s music. It was thrilling to perform those songs in front of a live audience for the first time. The show was received very well and I hope to return for Interlakes’ Stephen Schwartz review this upcoming year.
Happily, I spent August vacationing with my family, and now I have returned to the city to live in my first permanent Manhattan address. Audition season has begun and I couldn’t be more excited to get back at it. Michael Rodriguez is lining things up for me at this moment, in addition to my contacting all of the folks who I have met since my return from the Beauty and the Beast tour, and I am confident that it will be a wonderful and productive autumn!
